The Gates of Horn and Ivory

Two Gates the silent House of Sleep adorn; Of polish'd Iv'ry this, that of transparent Horn:
True Visions thro' transparent Horn arise; Thro' polish'd Iv'ry pass deluding Lies.

I just finished The Laughing Corpse by Laurell K. Hamilton. This book is one in the Anita Blake series. I don't recommend them beyond the third book though as she starts getting really pornagraphic after that and all the books thereafter are totally absurd and ridiculous and personally, if I were Hamilton, I would be very embarassed for such bad writing. But the first 3 are really good.

Now I am going to read the third one and then switch to something else. I have "Collapse" on my agenda to read and some other book, a book about God.

I read Vision in White by Nora Roberts
If you enjoy romantic novels; this is a good book which sticks to its genre throughout

Is it historical romance? Or is it set in modern day?

it is mostly modern - it is a love story with a twist; so at some parts it may almost seam like it goes back into time; in terms of some of its references

Embrace the Twilight by Maggie Shane is what i last read, then i found a previous book for this series in the stack my sister brought! :lol Good, but graphically violent i think.

Just bought a bunch at the library today. One's: Barron's Regents Exams and answers - Earth Science The Physical setting 2005printing (wish i didn't since i found after bringing it back here the previous owner wrote in it and circled their answers in pen! and i hate that most of all in these kinds of books. And i think it's pointless to sell or donate like this)

    And:
Startrek: Doctor's Orders the new novel by Diane Duane
Connan the Barbarian(thought he was only in comics)
The Plain Old Man by Charlotte Macleod
The Usborne Book of Secret Codes by Eileen O'brian and Diana Riddell

To name a few that caught my eye...

That sounds like a good book Zora, if you were nearby I would borrow it, but I suppose I can find it used, however, I am going to read my way though some vampire books first before I start anything new.

@Rayj - I know what you mean about people writing in books, argh! Sounds like you got a good bunch for sure, I have heard of Diane Duane, I should read her books one day, let me know how that one is and the others too, they sound interesting.

i liked it, this one had a human military spy, so i liked it even more. lol Some romance, and a good portion of violence. The characters were all pretty good i think, though: *not to post spoilers but if you read on you'll get a dose*

But the part of only certian people could change, being only 1 bloodline i didn't like. And there is a part where the vampire he loves chains him naked to a bed after kidnapping him where he can only walk around the room and into a bathroom against his will(for i dunno how many days before he fakes being affected to escape so he can look for the teen who was the only child born from a vampire who hunters want to get their hands on alive who her dad hired him to look after well her and her friend enjoy NYC otherwise alone and being human she couldn't sense him like any vampires around). Which i found odd, of course she was trying to break his will and pretty much make him a mindless zombie pretty much addicted to her blood like her human slaves she did this to but only druggies and stuff and her driver used to beat his wife i guess.
The beginning i liked, and the timetraveling in spirit thing he did to visit/view her past i liked. And the rest i liked i'll leave out as i already gave too much of things away. :)

    Relatively recent awesome awesome books:

Slumdog Millionaire: I haven't watched the movie, but I can safely assume the movie is nowhere near as good as the book. The morbid and dry humor makes me lol or smile at the end of every chapter.

The Kite Runner: I'm sure everyone's heard a lot of great things about it. It is as good as they say.

I'm taking a Dostoevsky class right now, so I'm reading a lot of Dostoevsky (Poor Folk/People, The Double, Memoirs from the House of the Dead, Notes from the Underground). I also read (since this posting) a lot of other books. I finished:

    - Fear and Trembling by Kierkegaard
    - Don't Think of and Elephant by George Lakoff (an excellent read for liberals)
    - The Stranger by Camus (I'd never read it, =( )

    I also finally read
    - To Kill a Mockingbird

I haven't read anything in half a year besides that Italian cookbook English got me. It was published in the 60's and had old school recipes that literally used everything remotely edible in an animal. Terribly interesting but not terribly appetizing.

She sent me a book for Christmas called Exceptions to the Ten Commandments. And it has like 200 blank pages in it. I am not sure if the book is suppose to signify that there are no exceptions, or that if I am supposed to record mine.

You are supposed to record your exceptions. :)

I'm reading trash novels and neurology.
