The Gates of Horn and Ivory

Two Gates the silent House of Sleep adorn; Of polish'd Iv'ry this, that of transparent Horn:
True Visions thro' transparent Horn arise; Thro' polish'd Iv'ry pass deluding Lies.

I started this thread at another board and it is working really well so let's try it here and see if it works here.

The My H&I Ƚog-in & Ƀlog-in is a thread created for your personal status updates, so you can let people know what you are up to as often as you wish! This is an ongoing thread with the latest updates at the end of the thread.

Light chat is more than welcome it is encouraged, however, do please respect that people need to search pages for entries and if there are 2 people talking for 10 pages that discourages the use of the thread. Feel free to chat but take long personal conversations to your own threads. Thank you!

    My First Entry.

IRL I am having a nice Friday night online, watching TV, playing with the cats. It's been a nice day overall. I should have called my mom though.

It's so hot. I turned the A/C from 78 down to 77. We have not had rain in ages and all the grass is dead. I hope my water bill isn't astronomical in trying to keep the garden fed.

I need to shower and make a proper meal. Just crunching on yesterday's garlic bread. And I found ONE compatible mobo on eBay and so need to call my mother right now and ask for help.

Then start studying for my psychology test.

Wow, I am glad you found something Dave!

For me, I am up earlier than I wanted. I have an 11:30 eye appt. I won't go into the grief I was caused by the guy ordering the prescription wrong (this is the 2nd time he has done this), but now I am off to get it rectified. Josef is coming with and we'll stop for coffee and maybe a scone or something on the way. Otherwise today is a blank slate. What to do?

Goals: Eyeglasses place. Study Hindi, write Hindi thank you letter for the picture my tutor's mom gave to me. Order prints for Josef's art. Work on continuing medical education.

    Might as well jump in...

Decided to get up early-ish for a Saturday to head over to the other side of town and hit a garage sale or two, as well as some thrift stores. Great day for game collectors, the joy is always in the hunt ;). Also watching some of the Dallas Stars prospect camp online later, gotta' keep up with how the future Stars are doing!

    Time for a good day!

    Hmm.. this looks fun.

Well, today I didn't do much except hide inside the only air conditioned room in the house all day. My computer isn't in there, so I basically screwed around on my new 3DS while hiding from the heat. It's 90 now though, so I'm braving the heat again. :p Probably gonna play more Minecraft or somethin'.

had a pretty good day at work today. Managed to finish a higher-than-usual volume of bakery related work within time (as in, not a second of overtime!). I was pretty proud of myself, and I could tell my boss was impressed (he impresses easy, but rarely does he actually vocalize it; ya know, typical kids :p )

Still deciding on the school thing. Goals for the rest of the day: eat food, sleep.

I slept all day due to a massively high blood sugar. I feel better now, but I think it's still high. Other than that, though, I'm doing okay.

Well it's really good to hear what you all are doing during your days. I didn't get all my goals done but I did do some. I got the eyeglasses done. I did order Josef's prints. I did half my CME. I didn't get any Hindi done though. It's been an ok day, it's like where did the day go though? Anyhow, not too bad of a day.

I FINALLY got my blood sugar level down to where it should be, Over the course of a ten hour period, it took sixty units of short acting insulin (for reference, I take twenty at meal time) to finally bring it down. Granted it was high, as in over four hundred high (it's supposed to be under 140) but that's still more than three times what it should have taken to get it down for me. I really hope tomorrow is better, I don't want to have to go to the ER.

I decided yesterday to make a chili, since I have not made any in quite a while. It was somewhat a poor idea in that "who wants to eat chili when it is so miserably hot?!" And then of course I am in the kitchen for several hours preparing it. I'll try it out tomorrow if not tonight.

Somehow my garden hose got torn, I suspect the neighbor unknowingly drove over it and turned the car's wheel. So now I am back to hauling the mop bucket back and forth. Of course there is a wasp's nest in the cable box above the water spigot, so I am very wary about even getting water right now.

Went through my exam review last night and I seem to remember 95% of it. I still cannot remember all the brain part functions, such as "What does the thalamus do?", but I don't have many to memorize.

The 3 gallons of chili should last me a while. I'll go over my exam review again later but otherwise have nothing that needs done today, so will probably read and play video games.

Do you have an insulin pump? Also, are you eating incorrectly, or are you a brittle diabetic?

Hey Dave, think of the thalamus as a major relay station through which sensory and some motor functions touch down and travel though. It is a fascinating structure.

So I am watching tv right now, eating cereal and drinking coffee. Goals for today are to:
    1. Finish the ischemic stroke CME.
    2. Write out the Hindi letter and work on homework.
    3. Do some laundry.
    4. Put away the cat food delivery.
    5. Whatever other chores/fun pops into my head.

Well, Yesterday and Today were a bust in terms of game collecting (never know unless you try moment: If anyone's interested in offloading some old games or consoles, and feels like donating, I'm always available :D), but I found a few interesting places around town in terms of thrift shops that carry some unique items (found one that specializes in hot wheels and old cartoon memorabilia...very interesting!). Not a complete waste of a weekend, by any stretch.

Goals for the rest of the day:

-Picked up a copy of Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for the N64 two weeks ago, it doesn't work...need to see if I can fix it. Nope, 'tis busted.
    -General household cleanup...
-Avoid the heat outdoors at all costs.
-Play some games, unwind and relax. Hopefully.

    Whoo.

Last day of work for the week, starting three days off in a row tomorrow. Feeling good about myself today for some reason, even though I started off really sluggishly (working in a fast-paced environment like a bakery being sluggish really shows, but I finished strong!). Forgot to brush my teeth before I went to work so I was really conscious of my breath the whole day. And then on my break I forgot to go get gum, so I'm really thinking I must have wanted people to smell my morning breath.

    Goals for the day:
-catch the Walking Dead season 3 preview
-finish 'Deadhouse Gates' by Steven Erikson
    -continue to figure out schooling

No insulin pump for me, not yet. My doctor wants better control first. I don't eat as well as I could, but I'm doing better at making good choices. And yeah, I'm brittle. Not as brittle as I used to be, but once it's high it likes to stay up there. It's partly how much I weight at the moment, the extra weight adds insulin resistance, but it's also some of the medication I take for the bipolar, it makes me insulin resistant as well. It's not as bad as others for me, and I hesitate to change the meds because they work soo well, but it makes it hard to control my sugars too.

Just found out the parents got their electricity on after 7 days without. This is courtesy of that derecho storm we had the 29th of June. Also, found out my great aunt is in the hospital, because she continues to insist that she takes her medications, but really she does not thinking that she does. As a result of no taking her blood thinner she had blood clots in her legs making it so she did not get circulation going throughout her legs. She had surgery on one and the other needs to too, but she is not to healthy for surgery let alone of this kind. She is doing okay as of now, but in ICU recovery and waiting it out.

My plans today since I am off this week are too:
    -Go up to my parents.
-On the way up go to Speedway gas station and get one of their speedy iced coffees *yum!*
    -Read my Nook
    -Maybe go shop.
-Enjoy some quality dog park time with my sweet girlie dogs!
-Eventually before the day is over do some of my summer class work done, so I can just be finished with this summer school nonsense!

Took my moped to school for the first time today now that I have a helmet and parking permit. It took me 20 minutes to get there - 2 minutes longer than by car. I gave myself a lot of time since it only goes 25 mph. Had my first psych test today and I am sure I got a perfect score, I was back in the parking lot getting on the scooter just 11 minutes after class started. Multiple choice ftw.

Finally had some rain yesterday, but I wish there was more. The mobo gets purchased and shipped today, if it gets here this week that would be amazing. Back to books and vidya games.

Went to the doctor today. Is it weird of me to feel bad seeing him about stuff that's mundane when he's dealing with chemo therapy for his lymphoma? It's like I'm not sure I could see him unless it was something serious. I still went anyway, and didn't broach the subject on his illness. My idea was that I was trying to be normal, that life is normal, and honestly he looked fine and all. Should I have asked? Maybe, but I was afraid cause he'd have been asked that so many times, even by my parents and my sister, so...

Chris the only game I have is Spyro the Dragon. Sowwies.

Entervixen sounds very complex to me. I understand about the weight, same here.

Liz, sorry to hear about your Aunt and also your folks without power for a week, dang. Just looked up the word "derecho".

Congrats Dave on your test and the moped.

Ethan I think you did the right thing not asking the doc about the lymphoma. That is rough and to be asked all the time is not a joyous thing.
