The Gates of Horn and Ivory

Two Gates the silent House of Sleep adorn; Of polish'd Iv'ry this, that of transparent Horn:
True Visions thro' transparent Horn arise; Thro' polish'd Iv'ry pass deluding Lies.

Only just noticed these video's, you made it look so easy! :)

I'm still sewing, stuff for me that I actually wear, which is a league ahead for me. ;-)

Hey there Jode! That is great that you are continuing your sewing and even doing clothes you can wear, wow! :)

I tried to learn but I was never was able to sew anything good. The sewing machine hates me. :grr: I swear it is not my fault. The thread always is doing something weird or falls out of the needle and for some reason I cannot sew in a straight line so I hid the machine away. Far away. No, I did not bury it in the backyard...but I thought about it. :twitch:

Stinky cheap machines can really ruin the love for sewing unfortunately. I hated sewing knits, 'till I bought my serger (which is still cheap, but it works) and after I decided to finally splurge on a better machine, I found out that you actually CAN sew knit fabrics on a regular sewing machine. Just not on the old 7os model I had before. Also, thread quality does matter. I also have some, well, vintage threads and sometimes they just end up breaking Every Single Time. That's just stinky thread or sometimes a slightly damaged needle. But it's very true that often the prettiest fabrics are aweful to sew.

I started to sign up for pattern testing, mainly because it's a healthy kick in the butt to finish up sometimes. But I've also sewn quilts, dunno. Many things. Straight lines, I always follow a guideline on the machine, the foot is the easiest, precise cutting is often the worst. That's why I prefer my rotary cutter (only my mat is too small, so I often end up cutting on the floor, which dulls my knife, but whatever...). I don't like pinning either, they always end up stinging me, and I just don't stress too much about it. It gets easier over time. :) Sewing and not stressing about it. ;-)

Since my Photbucket is fussy, I can share some photo's from the patternmaker's blog. shorts & top pants dress

Also made several I rarely wear, like this top and these scratchy cargo's (poor fabric choice) but well. I got cheap fabric and I liked sewing it, so not really wasted time.

As shows, I prefer the sewing part over the modeling part. ;-D

    I bought some neat fabrics recently as well, also some for the boys. They both immediately fell in love with a dinosaur fabric, so I also made 2 shirts out of it, I have a tiny piece left, maybe I can scrunch out a tee for the little one. Who will turn 3 tomorrow. ;__;

Haven't been to Gaia in a long time. I miss my regular threads, Utopia is stuffed with new people I don't know, unless it died in between, and FG is also dead, so I lack friends there. All my old friends haven't been there in a long time either, so I've only been back last year to check out the site during one event. Even joined a beta testers club, but meh. I did go to Roliana regularly, but they also announced that they'll throw the site out of the air in July? Or maybe it's already gone? Everyone disappeared. They had a discord server, but again, live chat isn't my thing. Also due to time zones, nobody's ever online when I'm there. I tried Zantarni as well, but meh. Love the community but I don't want to spend time on all those activities.

I just prefer sewing. And I still go to brass band rehearsal (we'll actually leave tonight for several concerts abroad, not looking forward to the bus trip, but well...), my eldest son is 7 now, will be 8 in September and just finished 1st grade. I try to stick to a scedule of teaching him Dutch at home, once a week, but the last 2 weeks I've been failing hard. School is officially over, but this is the 2nd week of camp (only during the day), so these weeks have been very, very busy. I also try very hard to infect him with a reading bug. Whenever I give him a book, he wants to read it immediately, so that's good I think. I hope. We'll see. At least he's over the fact that he never wants to learn how to read, that's what he told his teacher in December last year...

Holy moly you look fabulous! I admire your figure, I wish mine were like yours but sadly I should lose a few kilos. And your clothes...I cannot believe those shorts(!) and cargo pants(!), that is absolutely amazing sewing, and pockets! Your sewing is on a professional or a least really superior level. I love the top and dress too (and btw I adore your shoes, both the pair with the dress and the pair with the cargo pants), wow so cute!

Hehe your boys like dinosaurs! That is adorable! It boggles my mind to think your little one is 3 already. :eek-18: That happened really fast! How are their personalities? Are they very outdoor kind of boys or artistic or will they grow up to be scientists or astronauts? Are you still doing the farm thing? What is this about brass band??? What language does your son speak, if not Dutch? It is good he likes reading. Does he like science fiction? I remember when I was 8 I was given a science fiction book and I have never grown out of my love for rockets and flying to distant planets!! I wanted to be a nuclear physicist so bad haha! I still like physics and maths.

That is sad about Gaia. I remember when we were mods and it was a great thing to be a mod there, hehe, how funny! It was a fun time. I just one day stopped logging on and forgot about it and Zantarni and all the other places. But I go on Second life and dress my avatar in 3D and walk around and visit creative and artistic places and that place satisfies my dress up cravings. I also go to science lectures and I do a lot of shopping and arranging furniture in my home, lol. You just have to watch out for all the sex fiends there. :curse: It's nice to go dancing but I get propositioned a lot, haha.

Thanks. I'm blushing now. I'm ok with my figure, even though it changed a lot in the last few years. I'm almost on the heavier side of the spectrum again, but I'm too lazy to really watch it, I choose enjoying the most of life over watching my size, and unfortunately I love wine, beer and sweets sometimes. So yes, there's again some love handles, but I like to tell myself that's human.

As for sewing, I follow instructions and by doing, I learned some techniques. The insides are often not as neat as I'd like, but I'm also too lazy to take all those extra steps to baste and such. When it's nearly done, I want to wear it, damnit. And in the end, I'm the only one who wears it. I'm not a pro at all though, most ready to wear is just often pretty easy to make. Never tried any dresses with boning though. I also had a plan once to make a petticoat myself, but I bought one in the end, think I'll wear it to the ball this year, if I dare. ;-) I already stand out with my choice of clothes.

Shoes are my secret addiction. I have many bold one's, I wear all of them and I only buy shoes I can wear all day. For me the 6-7cm heel is perfect, comfortable and often better than flats. I used to buy brown or black shoes only, so I'm going wild nowadays and love picking out a shoe that matches or clashes with my outfit. It actually started with an accidental buy, I ordered shoes, they sent me the wrong one's and I decided to keep the wrong one's. Creme shoes with black polkadots and a red bow and red heel. I feared not being able to match them, but I think I wear them the most of all. :)

The boys do grow up fast, my eldest was always the one that went with the flow, but he's really getting a personality of his own. He can be really caring and sweet for his little brothers, mainly the little one, he loves building and enjoys finding out how things work and should be made or repaired. He fears stepping out of the "norm" though and really would like to do everything perfect, but the first time. The "practise makes perfect" isn't one he likes to hear, he rather hides somewhere, practices by himself and comes back doing everything perfectly. That's unforunately not how it works with everything, so it's a challenge. Something I do recognize from myself though. This summer we gave him some tasks at the farm, his summer is very long, doing nothing for 2,5 months hasn't made anyone better ever, and my eldest likes that most of the time. In "spare" time we try to practise Dutch as well, the plan is every weekend 1 or 2 hours, but there's quite a lot to learn to fit in that small bit of time. He does say he likes it, but it's hard to concentrate. Not sure either if I'm such a great teacher, but I try to find some other things around it too to keep his attention. Found some tiny puzzles, some extra assignments for the Loco "game" and he really can read some short texts and understand it. I think he's doing great, considering the little time we can put into it. I try to hand out some books as well from time to time, hoping to make him love books too, but not sure how long that will last.

Middle one is the one with the most words. He's the chattiest, loudest, he's always being sent out by big brother to make arrangements and gets everything done. He talks and has movements like the locals, he can be bold, but in a way people still accept it. He tends to be a bit lazy do, he rather tells everyone what to do and loves to see that things are being done. He's really good with words, which makes it easier. If he wants cuddles, he tells us that. If he's angry, everyone will know too. He's also creative, but I feel that in some ways he doesn't really show it all yet, mainy 'cause so far he always wanted to be and do the same as big brother. With almost 2 years difference between them, he's able to do most like his big brother but not all of course. He learns fast, we'll see. He'll go to first grade in september, so he's be one of the youngest in his class, but I really believe he can do it. He's smart, a fast learner and really looking forward to it.

Little one's still little. Very stubborn at the moment. He doesn't speak many words, I do notice him singing sometimes in his own language, he uses several words in both languages and just slams them together, combined with some "hums" and everyone understands him. When I tell people, they don't believe me, but when they experience it, they understand it. He uses a sort of sign language, combined with sounds. I notice the vocabulary is finally expanding a bit, but not much. I still hope that he's going to need language more when he goes to kindergarten, but we'll see. 'Till that time we just try to read a lot. I also feel like he thinks he needs to be the baby to get the attention. In general he needs more time. I believe and hope lots will be solved with time.

They're all 3 totally different, but I also see similarities. Everyone feels they look alike a lot, which is also misleading, 'cause they're all so different. I love them all though. <3

Gaia just finished a summer event with Lake Kindred. Inflation is really weird there. I find it too easy to earn currency. I'm going to be having another give away in October but that will probably be my last.

I experiment with kratom a lot. Keeps my mood up and keeps me away from alcohol. I can't just stay sober from everything all the time, life is not fulfilling enough. I'm not doing much. Just work all the time, school part time. Not doing anything for myself in what little free time I have, just finding a strategy video game to play or something like that, until I am ready for bed.
