The Gates of Horn and Ivory

Two Gates the silent House of Sleep adorn; Of polish'd Iv'ry this, that of transparent Horn:
True Visions thro' transparent Horn arise; Thro' polish'd Iv'ry pass deluding Lies.

I found out yesterday I'm pregnant. I found out today I'll be three months along tomorrow. My due date is October 24th, so I get to have a Halloween baby *grin*. So it really is a good thing I was able to resolve a lot of my anxiety about becoming pregnant, as I don't have much choice now lol. I'm getting over the shock of finding out I'm pregnant, though I'm still shocked at how far along I am, but over and through all that is a heavy sense of relief and happiness. :D My mom, sister, and best friend have banded together for the baby shower plans already, though I suspect I'm getting more than one, since Mom wants to throw one for her friends where she lives, as well as a bigger one at my Gramma's house, and I don't know if my mother-in-law wants to join the big one at my Gramma's, or have one for the Howard clan (it still warms me to my toes that I'm an official part of his family now, but that's a side note). Right now my personal plans, now that the first doctor's visit is scheduled, is to dig out some yarn and patterns and make baby things. And you all get to know before facebook, because I want to make sure everyone who should know outside of facebook first gets a chance to find out. :) And you guys, for being awesome and supportive when I was freaking out about having a baby in the first place, well you get to know early the exciting news. :)

Omg *drops in a dead faint* That is so wonderful. Trust me to not come here for 2 days ugh! I am SO HAPPY FOR YOU, holy moly. Baby things, you get to have cute baby things. And I get to send you something, lol. So whenever your baby shower is, let me know, I'll send something cool. Omg, this is fantastic. I feel like I am going to be an auntie. :elephant:

Thanks Dave, Chris and Uma! My mom has set a tentative date for the the baby shower as October 5th, but we'll see. I will let you know when things are more set in stone. I will totally keep you and everyone updated. And if you want to be an auntie, I am totally down. Adoptive family is still family, and I've known you long enough and well enough you qualify. :)

We're thinking of John Raistlin for a boy, and Winry Jane for a girl. John would be after my stepfather, who has done more for us in the time I've known him than my actual father, and Raistlin is our favorite character from the Dragonlance books, lol. As for Winry, she's one of the characters from my favorite anime, Fullmetal Alchemist, and one of the characters my husband and I both adore, who happens to be a kickass character all around. And Jane is after my grandmother, because she is an awesome woman. I debated for half a second hyphenating the middle name and throwing in my maiden name, like how mine is, but I don't really want to do that. Honestly it's a hassle to explain to people, and, at least until they changed the format of the California ID's, it was something I had to explain to most people when I was carded, because they thought my second middle name was my last. And while my last name is officially hyphenated, I mostly did that to give me more time to switch everything over to my married name. I vastly prefer just using my married name, otherwise it's a mouthful lol.

Edit: Looked up the name Winry out of curiosity, and it's Japanese for girl, and also skillful and cunning. :)

Sure I have heard of Raislin, I read those books long ago. That is a great name and so is Winry. It is really different yet very pretty and dynamic. Great names! Do you want to know the gender of your baby or wait until it is born?

So being pregnant has completely erased most of my ability to feel my blood sugar going high and low. It wouldn't be too much of a problem, except my sugar levels keep bottoming out, and I usually don't catch it until it's in the forties or lower. Since I'm pregnant, they want a pre-meal reading to be between 70 and 90, and a post-meal reading to be under 130 (non-pregnant me is supposed to aim for under 140 pre-meal and under 160 or 180 post-meal, for some comparison). Luckily I haven't gone high too often, but still. I'm testing more now to catch all the lows before they become a real problem, luckily I've been good so far and have caught them without passing out. My insulin needs have dropped like crazy too, my long acting has already been lowered 20 units, and it still needs to go lower. It's been over ten years since I took this little long acting, lol. I also have a test scheduled for Monday to check on the baby, since being diabetic puts the baby at risk for certain birth defects. The doctor didn't seem too worried though, she seemed to want me to do it more as a precaution than anything else. My appetite has also taken a huge hit. I've been getting nauseous when I eat anyways for a while now, and it's just been getting worse. I barely eat anything right now, because even the smell of food makes me sick to my stomach. My roommate, though, who has had four kids and finished all but the very last month of nursing school, said my body will tell me what it needs, and that I shouldn't worry too much right now.

Edit: A quick note on the blood sugar front, my last a1c was 7.3, which is a three month average of about 160, but the ob/gyn wasn't terribly worried about it. So while a much better a1c would be best (I think they're trying to get me under 6 right now) apparently mine isn't high enough to really warrant concern, at least according to my internist and ob/gyn. Which is a relief.

Do you have a pump? Or do you check with a fingerstick? Also, remember that home meters have a huge variability they are allowed. I'm just saying that it could be you are not as low as your meter says you are. You might want to take your meter in with you and when they draw you blood do your own test and see how close they are.

Well there is no reason you cannot have a successful pregnancy and I am sure your doctors are doing their very best for you. I hope the nausea does not last, that is a drag.

Nope, no pump. And I'm actually super picky about meter brands for that reason. One Touch is the most reliable I've personally used. All the others will give false readings sometimes, bur its never really been a problem with One Touch meters.

So apparently my Dad doesn't know I'm pregnant. I guess people are assuming I told him or something. He did call Mom, but it was to make her he had the right number for my sister, since she still wants him to come back. Oh well, he'll find out at some point. *shrug*

Maybe? Lol I'm not sure, most of my weight is in my abdomen, and while I've actually lost a bit, I haven't changed sizes.

I will defimitely let you know. :) I am being careful about who I tell the names to, simply because people can sometimes be super judgemental. But I have no problems telling everyone what sex the baby will be :D I can't wait to find out!
