The Gates of Horn and Ivory

Two Gates the silent House of Sleep adorn; Of polish'd Iv'ry this, that of transparent Horn:
True Visions thro' transparent Horn arise; Thro' polish'd Iv'ry pass deluding Lies.

We drank the poets last night
    Along with guitars and rhythms
    Songs never heard, only buried
Beneath the inebriated feel of words
    Long since held seminal
Now power is broken in an ill note
    All of this knowledge flows
Like styx and stones and sleep
Held on pages to fade away
Or bytes to degrade in memory
Like we do to another world
    Guarded and lauded
But, without the key nothing is sacred
  2. i really love this piece. the way you give multiple meanings to words is lighthearted, on the one hand, but the meaning and atmosphere of the piece is so profound on the other, so that not only are the actual meanings ambivalent, so are the feelings they intone. i quite like it, on the whole, and also the very traditional way of capitalizing each line, regardless of syntax... it leads you into reading the piece simply and traditionally, but then is something else all together. i have had experiences with words and music that made me feel this way, and it is wonderful to see it so mystically captured.
